O.T. flood account N.T. allusions to the flood
Noah prepared an ark, in which eight people were saved [Genesis 6:18; 7:7-16] the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water [1 Peter 3:20]
And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. [Genesis 7:23] by baptism, we are included in the resurrection of Christ, which saves us just as Noah and those who were with him in the ark did not perish in the flood [1 Peter 3:21]
people were unaware till the flood came upon them [Genesis 6:13; 7:21] people are unaware till the coming of the Son of Man; Christ’s coming will be like the days of Noah [Matthew 24:36-41]; scoffers deny that a flood could happen [2 Peter 3:3-6]
the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights [Genesis 7:12] Jesus said, Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. [Matthew 7:24-25]
the flood waters emerged from within the earth; “the fountains of the great deep” [Genesis 7:11]; “the water under the earth” [Exodus 20:4] the flood waters came from within the earth [2 Peter 3:5-6]
the earth was purified by water [Genesis 7:21-23] as the old world was destroyed by water, the present world is “reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition” [2 Peter 3:7]; fire is a metaphor representing God’s word, and God’s vengeance [2 Thessalonians 1:8]
the flood waters were on the earth for 150 days [Genesis 7:24; 8:3] the torment of the locusts is for 5 months [Revelation 9:5]
the flood covers the mountains [Genesis 6:7; Psalm 104:8] the mountains were not found [Revelation 16:20]
the tops of the mountains were seen [Genesis 8:5] the Lord’s house is to be established in the tops of the mountains [Isaiah 2:1-3]; fulfilled in the N.T. [Hebrews 12:22-23]
the ark rests on mountains [Genesis 8:4] Jesus said, flee to the mountains [Matthew 24:16]
the old world was destroyed [Genesis 7:21-23] heaven and earth will pass away [Matthew 24:35]; the heavens shall pass away with great noise, and the earth will be burnt up [2 Peter 3:10]
a new family populates the earth [Genesis 8:17] a new people created [2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 6:15]
God will not again destroy the earth with a flood [Genesis 8:21-22; Isaiah 54:9] God’s people will be gathered [Matthew 24:31]; restitution of all things [Acts3:21]; restoration will be forever [Isaiah 54:8-10; Ezekiel 37:25-26; 39:26-29]; no more curse [Revelation 22:3]
the rainbow is a token of the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth [Genesis 10:16] John saw an angel with a rainbow upon his head [Revelation 10:1]
When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him [Isaiah 59:19] if God spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly … The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished [2 Peter 2:5, 9]
the end will be with a flood [Daniel 9:27] the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman [Revelation 12:15]
the flood waters retreat, and the earth is dried [Genesis 8:13; Psalm 104:7-9; Isaiah 44:27] the earth swallows up serpent’s flood [Revelation 12:16]
the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea [Isaiah 11:9] whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire [Revelation 20:15]
